The 'Credit Crunch': Coping during a time of uncertainty

If a situation seems out of your control it can bring all sorts of hardships, negative emotions and thoughts to the surface. Fear, guilt, worry, blame, injustice, anger, remorse… the list goes on and on.

It can be a difficult ‘financial, emotional and spiritual place’ to be, but take heart, you’re not alone. Many people face uncertain times and there are numerous Catholic organisations and church communities who are willing to walk with you and where possible help practically.

“There is an appointed time for everything,
and a time for every affair under the heavens.”

Ecclesiastes 3

Saint Helpers

It’s important to have a support network when things get tough.

Catholics believe that the Saints in heaven are in communion (closely united) with those living on earth.

We can ask them to pray to God for us as our spiritual friends. The patron saint of financial matters is St Matthew the Apostle. Meanwhile, depending on the severity of your situation you may feel that the patron saint for desperate causes is more apt – St Jude.

What would Jesus do?

What would Jesus do?If Jesus was living your life today and going through your experiences, what do you think he’d do and say?

You can read an account of Jesus's life to help answer that question. Alternatively, here are some 'Jesus quotations'.

True Value!

True Value

Your true value can never be judged by 'perceived' status, the money or the possessions that you have accumulated.

In God's eyes your value is YOU. To God you are priceless just are you are. Success and failure don't count. Blame isn't in God's vocabulary.

Did you know that Franciscan Friars take a promise (vow) of poverty which means they have very few material possessions.
