life4seekers homepage - The Da Vinci Code

The Da Vinci Code - conspiracies, cover-ups, sex, greed and lies…just some of the dominant themes which lie at the heart of novel.   It's a best seller, read by millions the world over, but what is the truth and how much of this work of fiction relates to real life?

Many experts have documented that The Da Vinci Code is ill-researched and inaccurate but still some people regard it as fact.  Concrete evidence seems to do nothing to dent their faith in The Da Vinci Code.  Why?

? ?

Who and what things do you believe in?
Are you a ‘faith’ or ‘fact’ person?
Take our quick quiz:

'Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth-in a word, to know himself-so that, by knowing and loving God, men and women may also come to the fullness of truth about themselves.
We all share a need to believe and a need to question. The novel seems to ignite in many a desire to know what is true and awaken a
heart

Feeling my life has purpose and is of value

Feeling completeness and contentment

Feeling unconditionally loved and forgiven

Feeling accepted even when I am not perfect

Feeling I am taken care of always

Feeling I am guided when I lose my way

Why are so many people criticising the novel?  See both sides of the argument and judge for yourselves.

A fellow Da Vinci Code seeker shares his journey.

It was quite a while before I actually got round to reading The Da Vinci Code.  People at work had been raving about it for some time – and everyone on the train seemed to be reading it as well.  But it was when friends and colleagues started discussing the novel’s significance – in that they said it seemed to offer an interesting alternative perspective to Christianity – that I thought I’d better have a look myself.

  Relating to Jesus
I know loads of people who after reading the book realised that Jesus was a real human person and I personally found that I wanted to know more.

This is one artist's interpretation of the Last Supper - when Jesus shared his last meal with his followers.  It's not intended to be a photograph.
But what does this meal mean?

Jesus Christ had a wife?

Many readers have documented that they feel more able to relate to Jesus in the novel because it implies that he had a wife.  But the evidence proves that Jesus was a celibate? Did celibacy have a place in society then and now?

Read a modern day celibate’s response.

True or false?

TRUE or FALSE?

It is popular culture that seems to bind and guide people nowadays whereas in the past people would have been united and found direction through their religious community and leaders.

How do you feel about this change?
