Prayer is like having a conversation with your best friend. When you are with your best friend you are totally yourself, you feel you can say anything to them and there is a bond of mutual trust and love between you. A conversation and relationship with God is a lot like this. |
 |

How would you feel if your child or best friend needed something but felt unable to ask you for help? This is how God feels, so ask if you are in need.
Think what you happen, if you never telephoned, text, wrote to or visited your best friend. You'd grow distant and apart. This is similar to what happens when we don't pray. |
 |
Some examples of prayers:
The Lord's prayer is very well known and was taught by Jesus Christ to his friends.
Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy Will be done,
On Earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we will forgive those who trespass against us: and lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from Evil, |
 |

"Amen" means "so be it" or "let is be so". |

For Guidance:

Lord, make my every thought, word and action of you this day.
My every footstep, to be placed and guided, exactly where you would have me be at that very moment in time.
My most fervent and ardent desire:
To serve thee above all things, so that in all that I say and do, filled with your Holy presence, a tabernacle for your spirit, I may be a true and living witness to the Father's glory.
In Jesus' name. Amen. |
 |
To your Guardian Angel:
|
| |
Angel of God
My guardian dear
To Whom God's love
Commits thee here
Ever this day be at my side
To light and guard
To rule and guide.
Amen.
|
A prayer from Sylvia:
Holy Spirit I invite you into my house and into my home,
Into my life and into my world,
Into my space and into my time,
Here, where I am.
To you do I offer my love, and my trust,
Now and forever, Amen |

Catholic priests leading a night of prayer in Walsingham, Norfolk. |
 |
Prayer can be done on your own or in a group, and/or as part of a community. It has many different forms and is sometimes spoken, at other times we simply think about God (meditate), and other times simply "be" with him, not using many words or thoughts (called contemplation).
Some people prefer to kneel when they pray, others stand or sit in a comfy chair. The most important thing is that you feel free to express yourself in the way most comfortable to you, so that you can talk to God who is longing to listen to you. |
