Although remembrance brings back memories and feelings related to that loss, remembering someone who has died is a good opportunity to reflect upon their impact on your life and what knowing them taught you. |

There is no doubt that we owe a huge debt of gratitude to any man or woman who selflessly gives their own life to protect, preserve or enhance the quality of ours.
‘Thank you for what you did for me.’
We also need to think of the families & friends who lived on; they have to bear the loss of that person throughout their lives and should be remembered too.
‘I feel for you and your loss.’

Keeping in touch
The spirit continues on even after physical death and you can stay ‘in contact’ even if you can no longer stay ‘in touch’. Catholics often send out thoughts in the form of prayers to benefit the dead. They also ask their loved ones to pray for them – to ask God for guidance or help. The latter is called ‘intercession’.
Catholics believe that trying to connect with the spirit of a loved one through use of a Medium should not be encouraged and is a very dangerous thing to do.
‘The dead often need our prayers and we can ask them to pray for us. They can hear us.’

Death is not the end. Death relates to the human body but not to the spirit inside the body, the spirit exists for all eternity. If we choose to believe in God and the afterlife we can hope that we will meet our loved ones again.
A person of any or no faith is welcome to send out positive thoughts and prayers in memory of those who have died. You don’t have to have known the person to pray for them.
