Whatever our background, our job, our religion, our gender, each one of us has a desire to discover our true identity. 'What am I', 'Who is the real me?' and 'Why am I here?' It can lead to a lot of soul searching.

James

"Every person has a unique talent and purpose in life. The challenge we all face is to find out what our talent and purpose are and actually live them. You owe it to yourself to be everything that you have been created to be."
A Nelson. Designer

Are you 'on purpose'?

'On purpose' is just a way of describing that you are fulfilling the life purpose you were created for – that unique value you bring, the individual uniqueness that sets you apart from everyone else. We all have a purpose – it's guaranteed. Do you already know yours?

An Angel in a Junior School Nativity Play stood up and said to the Shepherds, "You do not have to be 'special' to be of value in this world'. I think she was right! Don't expect drum rolls and trumpet blasts – some things are just as valuable without needing 'the big entrance'.

"All Andy wanted was to be as big as Robert. All Robert wanted was to be picked up and cuddled!"

What is inside us is the only true representation of who we really are. You may even lose sight of it sometimes, so occasionally you'll need to take time to rediscover the 'real' you!

What's your value?

Hallo? Yes. I'd like some information about myself.

A mistake often made is to allow other people, or material possessions, to define who we actually are. When this happens the true person within us is often overlooked. What we own, or how other people see us cannot define us – our true identity comes from within.

"For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it."
The Bible, 1 Timothy, chapter 6, verse 7.

Who we are cannot be based on our physical or material possessions, it can't be defined by other people, the press or role models. Our identity is anchored deep within our very selves, and ultimately it's down to us to make the choice about who we want to be in life.

"The more human beings know reality and the world, the more they know themselves in their uniqueness, with the question of the meaning of things and their existence becoming ever more pressing."
Pope John Paul II, Fides et Ratio 1.
