The fact that I am free to make my own choices and decisions in life, is very important to me. I see my personal freedom as a gift and believe that free will is a marvellous thing when used positively. However, I don't always use my freedom responsibly. I'm human! And I suppose, all of us at times, fail to consider other people's needs in our decision making. On the other side of the coin, we also experience occasions when we choose not to act as we would like, because it would affect those closest to us negatively. It can be a tough gift to use.

How do you respect yourself and the needs of others?

In the world it's our Civil laws which help to direct us and teach us what is for the common good. But what about our inner selves? I know a lot of people who are very 'Christian' in their lifestyle but don't call themselves religious people. They actually follow many of The Ten Commandments out of choice, but would not admit it in so many words.

The ten commandments were given to Moses on slabs of stone – a bit like ancient post it notes!

What do you refer to for guidance about how to live your life? How reliable do you find them?

"It's as sensible a lifestyle guide as saying - don't immerse this electrical appliance when it is plugged in to a live socket."
Catholicism for Dummies by Rev. John Trigilio and Rev. Kenneth Brighenti, pg. 165

The list below is a readily available, proven lifestyle guide designed to help inspire us live our lives well and enjoy our lives to the full - and they have been used successfully for centuries. I know them as some of The Ten Commandments.

How many of these would you say you already believe in quite naturally? Many of them are probably known to you already via the realm of common sense.

>

I believe it is wrong to kill an innocent person.

>

I believe it is wrong to cheat in relationships.

>

I believe I should not steal from others.

>

I believe I should respect my Mum and Dad, family and friends.

>

I believe it is wrong to tell lies or deceive people.

>

I believe I should treat others how I would like to be treated.
