Good News ! |
Life’s a bitch and then you die |
|
Life is good!
Love is at the centre of all things!
God made all things good and even when things get messed up God
works to restore them and make them even better.
Even the pain of death is transformed in God’s love to the
possibility of happiness for ever |

|
There is no God |
|
Every person has a ‘God-shaped’ hole.
The desire for God is part of who we are.
If we have the courage to reach into our souls we shall feel that hunger for
God and if we open our hearts, God will feed that hunger with the wonders of
his love. |

Christians hate the world and condemn every person
in it as a sinner |
|
God so loved the world that he sent his only son
Jesus.
Jesus takes the reality of our wrong doings and mistakes onto himself so that
we can be free to enjoy life in all fullness.
Christians enter into the mystery of Easter: Jesus dies for us
and is raised to new life so that we can die to sin and be raised
to new life in Jesus and through the Holy Spirit. |

The Church is corrupt and full of hypocrites |
|
The people of God’s Church have the full range
of human failings, some of which are deeply scandalous. However,
the Church is also the place where we can honestly face up to our
errors and grow through them with God’s help. When we admit
we are wrong, Jesus can forgive us.
The Church is the community of faith who celebrates the good news of Jesus. |

I am not good enough to be a Christian |
|
Join the club! Only Jesus was perfectly good yet
he shares his goodness with us who are less than perfect.

|
There is no hope in a world of violence, oppression,
exploitation and greed. The little people will always suffer. |
|
Jesus shows us a vision of the Kingdom of God, a kingdom of love, justice and
peace.
God is on the side of the poor.
Millions of men and women of good will can work together to join
in God’s project of establishing just relationships in every
field of life and enjoy harmony and peace. |

|
Christ may be OK, the Christian Church is dreadful |
|
Of Course!
Jesus is much better than his people.
But to be truly ‘me’ I need other people. I need to
be in relationship with others.
In the Church ‘me’ becomes ‘we’.
In the Church God offers us the special gift of his grace through
the sacraments.
As God’s people in the Church we worship together and can
offer the sacrifice of thanks and praise which is our highest calling. |

Prayer is a waste of time |
|
God enables us to rise above our fears and worries and enter
into a wonderful intimacy in prayer. In prayer we are marvellously
close to God and to other people.
Through prayer our lives and the world can be transformed.
Prayer is the best possible use of time. |
The good news is that our story is joined to the story of God in Jesus.
In Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can each know new
life, we can be part of the community of faith that celebrates that new
life and which, in the vision of a world transformed, serves our neighbours.
