We all have different roles we play in life – I can be a sister, a team player, an employee. Ultimately I am the same person even when I do these things at the same time, and there is a parallel here with the mystery of the 'make-up' of God. God is a Holy Trinity (three in one). This is an important aspect of Catholic belief. Catholics believe that God is One. They believe that God has what's called ONE nature, but inseparable from that nature, are three persons - God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and God the Holy Spirit. It can be hard to take on board.

"A mystery of religion - is a truth about which we can not know everything."
Canon Ripley, This is the Faith, pg. 103.

Sometimes we have personal experience of things that cannot be understood or easily explained. These other life mysteries mean we have to go beyond the limitations of human logic.

God -

Our Father who is a loving 'parent' (Father) watching and caring for us.

Son of God -

Jesus, the Son of God who became man.

God the Holy Spirit -

Spirit and a bringer of spiritual gifts.

Three persons...
...but one nature.

Have you had a personal experience of something that was in fact a kind of mystery – something that cannot be explained.
