life4seekers homepage - A place for God in our world - Claims Jesus made

Jesus made a variety of staggering claims about himself. For his followers these claims would have been considered inspirational and uplifting, but to those who were in positions of authority they would have been seen as undermining, aggressively arrogant and very worrying. Jesus would have known the impact his claims were going to make.

Claims he made:

He was the son of God:

He claimed he was the son of God and was condemned because of it – on a charge of blasphemy (showing contempt for God). What do you think? Was he really was the son of God or totally insane?

A new ideas man:

He was the bringer of new and challenging ideas, encouraging new thinking that would challenge the accepted laws of society and undermined the current world vision. He emphasized that at the heart of the Jewish law was a quote from the Jewish Book of Deuteronomy, "You must love the lord thy God with all your heart, with all your soul (spirit) with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbour as yourself." This quote is also found in Luke's Gospel chapter 10 verse 27.

One of Jesus' most radical teachings was that everyone was considered to be equal in the eyes of God, that there was no distinction between slave and freeman, men and women! (Ahead of his time, eh!).

The judge of all men:

He stated that when the end of time comes it will be he, Jesus, who will be sitting on a throne passing judgement on all men and women. If he sits in judgement of all men and women, does that make him God?

Lord of the Sabbath day:

Jesus claimed to be Lord of the weekly Jewish holy day. But the Lord of this Sabbath day was said to be God.

All powerful:

Jesus claimed he was powerful enough to be able to forgive men and women when they did wrong. No one but God could do this, could they?

Claims Jesus made:
Life4seekers response

During his lifetime, the claims Jesus made, the miracles he performed and the inspirational words he spoke, suggested to many that Jesus truly was the Son of God. Meanwhile, to others what Jesus did just proved to them he was a trouble maker.

What do you think? What about you? Have you ever made claims about yourself that people did or did not believe?

Any of these hit a chord....?

'I played guitar alongside Paul McCartney once.' - 'My Grandpa knew Winston Churchill.' - 'I used to play Rugby for the county.'
